Hey there, I'm Tomo!

I'm a digital artist from the United States!
My main focus is on making original content that centers around my story and the characters in its universe, whether it's artwork, prose, or webcomics.

About the Artist

Basics is that I'm a 1991 baby, so I'm old enough to be the president now. (Vote for me)
I was introduced to anime around the age of 13, and it was the thing that actually made me really invest in drawing and creating things. I enjoyed drawing both fanart and original characters even back then, and still have the first characters I ever made as a part of my stories now.

I'm a self-taught artist, which, for me, means that I've never had any kind of formal education when it comes to art. I actually didn't like art classes in school, and never wanted to pursue art as a career. Drawing for the sake of getting paid always raises the stakes too high for me, and it ruins the enjoyment I would usually get out of art.
Because of that, I'm a hobbyist that draws simply for the love of the game.
Even if I don't make money off my art, I still love to share it with people, and share my stories with others who may also enjoy them and possibly feel inspired by them!

Art Inspirations

When it comes to art and creation, I have three people that always come to mind that have inspired me greatly.

  • The late animation director and character designer Futoshi Nishiya (Free!, Hyouka, etc.) is the main inspiration behind my particular art style, even if it's evolved past being all that similar in appearance.

  • Artist and writer Ryukishi07 (Higurashi, Umineko, Iwaihime, etc.) has been an inspiration both for his drive and love of creating, as well as the amount of thought and research he puts into his stories.

  • Mangaka Gosho Aoyama (Detective Conan) is an inspiration for similar reasons as Ryukishi, and the way he loves drawing, and loves his own characters, is something that I can resonate with so deeply!

I'm always inspired by various things and people, not just those three, but their work always brings me a certain kind of joy and inspiration and makes me want to be just like them.

Favorite Media

Of course I have my favorite media as well. I can't forget them!
There's always more than what I mention, but these are definitely my go-to's!

  • Detective Conan (Anime/Manga)

  • Higurashi When They Cry (Anime/Manga/Visual Novel)

  • Little Busters! (Anime/Visual Novel)

  • Nobunaga Concerto (Anime/Manga/Live Action)

  • Summertime Rendering (Anime)

  • Sing A Bit of Harmony (Anime/Movie)

  • Air (Anime/Visual Novel)

  • The Heike Story (Anime)

  • Person of Interest (Live Action)

  • Ghost of Tsushima (Video Game)

  • Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (Live Action)

My favorite genres are usually things like drama, historical, mystery... I love a good historical Japan series (like any variation of samurai, Edo, or Shinsengumi topics), or something culturally specific (like Akane-banashi [rakugo] or Chihayafuru [karuta])
Basically, I'm going off vibes here!! If you ever heard of a Japanese TV show called "Nakayama Hideyuki no Tanoshiku Ichimanpo," I also loved that (when I could watch it)!!

Art Tools

I've been a digital artist for many years, due to the convenience of keeping everything on a computer.
Since I don't have the space to keep traditional items, the computer has been my tool of choice.

  • Current Software: Clip Studio Paint EX

  • Current Tablet: Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2021)

  • Previous Software: Paint Tool SAI

  • Previous Tablet: Wacom Intuos Pro (2017)
